Complete the Journalist Survey - RSS vs PR Wires
Marketing February 15th, 2008For my current work at an interactive agency and throughout my communications agency work I have been counseling public relations teams on the use of press release wire services to enhance outreach directly towards target audiences. Recently I have been asked as to the value of these wires versus a company’s RSS feeds.
Somewhat towards this end, several nice reports have come out recently on the influence of bloggers and company social media. Brodeur, Arketi and Bulldog Reporter/TEK Group.
However, I would love to see some direct feedback from the media (traditional and non-traditional journalists) as to their preferences in how they receive company news. I put together this survey rather than waiting for my agency, or another to ask some straight forward questions.
Please help me by forwarding the survey link to you media contacts. Of course, I will share the data and report with all those who help out. Why not present the data right then online? One, I do not want to skew the results. More because I am running this on the cheap and not using something like SurveyMonkey that automatically tabulates and presents results.

Dan,
You have asked an extremely misleading question regarding spamming of press releases that, in my opinion, requires clarification. PR Newswire does not spam journalists with press releases. That is, in fact, illegal. All journalists who receive press releases from PR Newswire directly have opted in to receive them either via RSS (we have more than 500 feeds) or via our media site, PR Newswire for Journalists (which has more than 1.4 million press release views a month, most of which are from emailed press releases to journos who have opted in thus indicating a significant interest in both the news iteslf and the delivery method). Other journalists access press releases from PR Newswire via either satellite or IP-based newsroom feeds into the editorial system. Again, your question is implying that PR Newswire is sending unsolicited press releases to reporters and bloggers and that’s simply not true.

Excellent point. I will re-phrase this question shortly.
